Accepted at the Washington Royal Academy of Dance as a child, Conservatoire National de Besançon medallist in 1989, Cynthia Akanga follows in parallel her studies in musicology. The Ministry of Culture awards her a grant to study choreography that allows her to join the Alvin Ailey Dance Centre and the Martha Graham Dance School in New York. She is invited to join numerous companies such as the Philadelphia Dance Company, Donald Byrd Company and Max Luna 3 Company.

 

Returning to Europe she continues her career with directors Robert Wilson, Jerome Savary de l’Opera  Comique, Gilles Maheu of Carbonne 14, cinematographer Claude Lelouch, the designer Giorgio Armani to name a few. After having being engaged by the Ballet de l’Opera de Paris for the creation of “The Ninth Symphony” of Maurice Béjart in 1996, she continues her career as an artist in the companies of Raimy Rogers and Geraldine Armstrong as well as the musical Notre Dame de Paris in Canada and Europe as part of the original cast. After a coaching experience with actors, singers and acrobats, she participates in the development of different choreographic projects.

 

In 2002, she is engaged by the Cirque du Soleil as assistant choreographer for the Zumanity creation, and later as artistic consultant for research and development for the show Love.

She continues her career as choreographer in Canada  and Europe where she participates in new creations such as, BBQ Burlesque Show, Sky and Ice, Typo or choreographic pieces like Zilon Sonic 2. She is currently directing and choreographing a horse show in Belgium. Her choreographic objectives reflect a wish for personal technical and artistic renewal.
